My first attempts at recording haven’t gone as easily as hoped.
First, I can’t seem to get through an entire piece without making at least one mistake. These are easy pieces that I can play with no problems, but as soon as I start recording, everything goes to pieces. I’m told that it gets easier. I think I will start recording entire practice sessions, so I can start the recorder and then forget about it.
More importantly, there’s a lot to learn (non-piano related). I have one program for recording – OBS. Then another for editing – VideoPad. Uploading to YouTube isn’t too hard, but it’s another thing to learn. I’m learning about masks and frames and inserting captions. Who knew?
I’m using a wide-angle webcam (Logitech Brio) which works well for recording the piano, but I rapidly came to the conclusion that I needed a better solution for mounting it than my current tripod. I’m pretty sure I know what I want. I’ll be ordering it from Amazon within a couple of days after my daughter (an experienced vlogger) gives her opinion. It’ll probably take about two weeks to get here.
All of this is causing a delay in recording the pieces I’ve finished. But that’s OK. I have a lot to do – learning and writing stuff for my blog.
And, at least for now, I’m sticking with my decision to hold off on starting the next level of Exploring Piano Classics. I’ll use the time to polish the pieces I want to record, in the hopes that I’ll be able to get through them with fewer mistakes.
That’s all for now.
