  • Turk – Arioso

Technique

Warm-up patterns in D (from Exploring Piano Classics – Technique Level 2)

Velocity — Biehl – Allegro – did this for a few days, and then I started getting some pain in my right hand. I think that pushing speed too much is creating undesirable tension, so I’m dropping this for now and going back to gradually trying to get my fingers moving a little faster.

Repertoire

Clark – Tarantella in C major

4 Sep — working on velocity mm (2 beats/bar) = 125 (stable-HT) = 135 (RH); aiming for 156 (slowest vivace); NOTE: Bachus plays at about 135

5 Sep — mm=135

6 Sep — won’t try to push to play faster; I think it’s causing tension (bad), so this is how fast I am able to play it at this point. finished and recorded

Mozart L – Burleske from Notebook for Wolfgang

4 Sep — mm=85 (not stable) (target = 88-104)

5 Sep — mm=88-90; ready to polish and record

6 Sep — finished and recorded

Schubert – Ecossaise in C major D 299 No 8

4 Sep — mm=120 (HT-not stable) target=104-120

5 Sep — mm=104-110; fast enough; ready to polish and record

6 – Sep — continued polishing

8 Sep — this is not a difficult piece, and it fit well under my fingers, but for some reason, it’s been very difficult to get a clean recording; I can now say, finished and recorded

New Bach JC – Rustic Dance

6 Sep — read through and started getting into fingers

8 Sep — I like this piece! It also happens to fit really well under my fingers; finished and recorded

New Bach JS – Menuet in G major BWV Anh 114

5 Sep — watched lesson on Tonebase

6 Sep — read through and started getting into fingers

9 Sep — practicing; I may spend more time on this one

New De Seixas – Minuet in C minor

8 Sep — read through and started getting into fingers

9 Sep — practicing; will probably finish in the next day or so

New Turk – Arioso

8 Sep — read through and started getting into fingers; this is a really simple piece which could sound just awful and boring, but I found a recording on YouTube which actually transforms it into something special; I’m aiming for that

9 Sep — practicing; will probably finish on Sunday

Chopin – Waltz in A minor Op 34 No 2

4 Sep — started working on Section D; continuing to work on Section A, B and C

5 Sep — read through the coda; played all, including repeats; there’s still a long way to go

6 Sep — concentrated on Section D; played all, excluding coda

8 Sep — again, focus on Section D; played all, coda RH

9 Sep — Section D; play through A-D, slowly

Disclaimer. I am an amateur, fumbling her way back to the piano.  This is my hobby and I do it for fun. I am happy to share my process, but, please keep in mind… I am not a teacher.  If something I am doing doesn’t work for you, or doesn’t feel right, or outright hurts, stop!  Everybody is different.  Playing the piano is not a one-size-fits-all activity.  Have fun with it.
